Hey there, Algorithms Engineers. Does micro-management tick you off? Bored with silly managerial nonsense? Want to contribute towards saving literal lives? Are you as excited as a kid in a candy store where intricate, bespoke kit is concerned? If you said “yes” to any of those, you just might like this full-time gig in Sydney.
Before jumping into the nitty gritty, you want to know what’s in for you, and that’s fair. Below are some of the things you’ll receive, and some of the things you can expect, in this permanent role in Sydney.
- You’ll earn a base salary around the mid-high 100’s mark (superannuation applied atop this base figure), aligned with your skills and experience.
- You’ll be safeguarding and protecting things of critical importance. Your work will matter.
- You’ll be surrounded by some of the sharpest operators around, playing with some of the most cutting-edge tech in existence (AI/ML, for example).
- You’ll be joining a very well-funded business with a strong financial position. This means continued, constant investment back into the business, instead of penny pinching.
- You’ll be stepping into a vocal culture recognition – the good work you do will be publicly acknowledged, and it’s going to come right from the top.
- You’ll be joining an exciting business! We get it, this is a very subjective term, and nigh on impossible to qualify, but please believe us when we say this business is doing some rather cool stuff, and making some pretty cool moves (their office is also… something most people haven’t seen before, in the best possible way).
- Perhaps not a “benefit,” per se (especially in 2024), but where other companies are mandating 5-days on-site, rest assured you’ll be able to split your time between home and the office as appropriate per the work you’re doing. You won’t be unnecessarily shackled to a desk 24/7.
So, what will you actually be doing? While a “typical” day doesn’t exist in this role, below are some of the things you’ll be sinking your teeth into.
First things first, you’ll be working on a small, nimble team of 3 (you’ll be the 4th), with aspirations to grow to 7 sooner rather than later. You’ll also be splitting your time between home and office. Typically, WFH 3-days per week, in-office 2-days per week.
- You’ll be researching and developing cutting edge software used to make sense of things in the RF spectrum.
- You’ll be designing algorithms which will be deployed onto all manner of embedded kit.
- You’ll be working hand-in-hand with software engineers, optimising algorithmic models to run smoothly in prod. software.
- You’ll be rubbing shoulders with the FPGA, DSP and SDR crowd, whose tech is utilised is the broader kit you’ll be working with.
- You’ll be analysing some rather interesting datasets – spatial, spectral, etc.
- Will you be performing mathematical modelling? You will.
- Will you be combining algorithmic models with research, and delivering value in a commercial sense? Yes.
- Will you be comfortable operating mostly in Linux, and playing with a slew of different tools? Sure thing.
To succeed in a role like this, what will you need? - Formal quals in CS, Maths, or another, relevant technical field of study.
- As this isn’t a junior role, demonstrable experience developing algorithms is needed (there’s no hard and fast rule for how many years’ experience you’ll need, but use 5 or so as a good yard stick).
- Proficiency in C++ and/or Matlab and/or Python.
- Knowledge of RF spectrum analysis will put you in a good position.
- Any experience with the broader EW realm will earn you a massive thumbs up.
- You’ll need to be able to play nicely with others, and by others, we’re talking people who don’t necessarily come from engineering, software, data science backgrounds. Can you talk tech to people who don’t share your own specific skills? You’ll need to.
If any of this has piqued your interest, please consider applying. There’s much more information, especially technical, that can be shared with you on a confidential basis which may help you decide if this is the job for you.
