If you're the person your team comes to when Fortinet gets complicated, keep reading. We're partnering with one of Australia's largest and most respected cybersecurity organisations to find a Technical Lead for their Managed Security Engineering team in Perth.
This is a 100% hands-on technical role. No people management, just deep security engineering, client consulting, and solution delivery. You'll be working directly with key clients as their go-to security expert, helping them solve complex problems across their firewall, SASE, and network security environments. Think trusted advisor, not ticket queue.
What You'll Be Doing - Working independently with clients as their dedicated technical expert across Fortinet and Netskope environments
- Providing expert-level engineering, troubleshooting, and architecture guidance across firewall and SASE platforms
- Driving the migration of managed security workloads from legacy environments into future-state platforms
- Designing, implementing, and configuring security infrastructure across multiple technology platforms
- Onboarding new clients into managed security engineering services
- Proactively investigating and recommending improvements to client infrastructure performance and security posture
- Owning and managing MSE toolsets and monitoring platforms
- Developing scripts and automation routines to improve operational efficiency
- Contributing to process improvement and ensuring ITIL-aligned change management practices
- Supporting and guiding less experienced engineers when needed
What You'll Bring - Expert-level Fortinet experience – FortiGate, FortiManager, FortiAnalyzer. This is the foundation of the role and we'll want to explore it in depth.
- Strong experience with Netskope and/or Palo Alto. The first client environment is heavily Fortinet and Netskope, so SASE experience is a genuine differentiator.
- The ability to articulate complex technical concepts confidently – conserve mode, NAT selectors, SSL decryption, User-ID, GlobalProtect, AppID, zone protection profiles. Your clients will ask these questions and expect expert answers.
- At least 5 years in IT security engineering or operations
- Experience working independently in client-facing or consulting environments
- Familiarity with monitoring and observability platforms (LogicMonitor experience highly regarded, PRTG/Auvik also valuable)
- ITIL Foundation qualification or equivalent understanding
- Relevant vendor certifications highly regarded (NSE4/NSE7, PCNSE, CCNP, CCIE, Azure certs, Splunk)
- Scripting and automation capability is a nice-to-have (Python, Ansible, PowerShell)
The Details - Permanent role based in Perth CBD
- Hybrid – 2–3 days on-site (client site or company office)
- Reports to the Technical Services Manager
- Work alongside some of the sharpest minds in Australian cyber security
- Open to Australian Citizens and Permanent Residents
Why This Role?
This isn't a role where you're buried in a SOC or drowning in a ticket queue. You'll have real ownership of technical outcomes, work across genuinely interesting security environments, and be the expert your clients rely on. The organisation offers flexible working and a strong benefits package that genuinely looks after its people.
Benefits include 20 weeks paid parental leave, birthday leave, mental wellness days, gym discounts (Goodlife, Fitness First, Anytime Fitness), health insurance discounts, salary packaging options including novated leasing, industry memberships, and a LastPass subscription for you and five family members.
